Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Which is of course always true, but was especially true for me today.

Those of you know me in person may know that I passed on most of my clients to other providers in late 2008, in order to work full time at one place. Working full time at that place proved to be... much less fun than I'd anticipated. (An understatement, but I don't plan to go into it here.) So I resigned and through various circumstances my last day was Monday.

Thus begins funemployment, at least for a while. (Not sure how long, but after the way the rest of this year has been, it seems a good plan to have a few weeks off. I've been telling everyone who asks about me doing work for them "November".)

Funemployment, day one

Day one was spent shopping for new work toys for my consulting business (I still had all the old bits but they were old: "depreciated to zero" old). I did my bit to help ensure that Apple has another profitable quarter.

After a morning of consumerism, I went for a walk. Without a cellphone. It felt odd. Not being constantly on call will take a while to get used to, I think.
