I woke around 2am this morning to my wrist being lightly kneaded by something somewhat prickly. It seemed to go away when I shook my wrist. Shortly thereafter I got up to go to the bathroom and felt as if something were brushing across my neck. After trying to wipe whatever it was off my neck a couple of times, a weta appeared on the floor with a thud, looking most displeased. Working backwards the weta must have been looking to snuggle, which is not something I had in mind.
Fortunately I'd seen the weta inside earlier (but been unable to corral it outside before going to sleep) so it wasn't a complete surprise. By early morning it was easier to catch up with it, and trap it inside a plastic container to take it outside. It did seem very confused by the clear plastic container -- after exploring the entire container for a little while it then froze into place, and stayed frozen for the trip outside and the removal of the container. It only moved again when prodded gently, whereupon it walked off across the grass. (I'm fairly sure I didn't hurt it in the process, at least no more than it traumatised me. "Catch and release" is my motto for unwelcome guests, where possible.)
I expect that the weta was only looking for somewhere warm and dry. But I only share my bed with books and the occassional laptop computer.
